STORY : 5 A HAUNTED CLASSROOM Paul had recently become a teacher of the ST. Gorge’s boy’s school. He was a good teacher and was loved by all children. He is now staying in a hostel attached to the school. One day he sat down, with another teacher, in a classroom beside the one of standard five to check some answer papers of the exams that the students gave. Suddenly he heard some noises that were like the voices of children playing, running around shouting etc. But when he and the other teachers got out seeing that what was happening there was utter silence. They thought that the fifth class students were making the noises. When they asked, a peon told them that they had gone to P.T. So they went in and continued their checking. That day no more sound came. But whenever he passed that hallway he could hear the sounds. Another day they were checking copies when they heard the same noises. This time they were sure that these sounds were made by the fifth class students. They ran out but saw that all of the fifth class students were silent as they were giving a test. Paul couldn’t find out what was going on and who were doing those. One night Paul was checking the papers alone when, suddenly the sounds began. He wanted to find out who were doing those as all the children had left. He took a torch and searched the hallway for the ones who were making those sounds. Suddenly he came across a particular classroom where the sounds were the loudest. He understood that the sounds were coming from that room. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the things that shocked him very much. Including the sounds, he saw the chalks were rising by themselves and writing something on the blackboard. Then the desks and chairs were floating in the air and some were swirling and flying. Some books and copies were also floating in the air. Paul got frightened and fell on the ground. Then he saw many white dim figures of children. Then in fear he closed his eyes and when he opened his eyes, to his surprise, it was morning and all the things were in place. The blackboards were clean and the benches and chairs were all in place. He quickly ran out of the classroom. Later, he told all about his experiences of that night to the Principal. The Principal didn’t seem surprised or shocked at this. She told that the room Paul had gone in was the classroom of the students of 1st standard. The students all died but she didn’t know how as she was not the Principal of that school at that time. But she had gone in that room once and had also witnessed the strange activities of them and had also seen them. Paul stayed there for few more years. After knowing that the ghosts of the small children did no harm to anybody, he didn’t mind the sounds. He actually liked it. |
